Dr. Francisco X. Martinez and his first wife Rafaela Serrano had nine children. She died giving birth to the 9th child, a daughter named Maria. Four years later he married his second wife Maria Teresa Del Pozo and after that there were two households – one for the older children from the first marriage and another for the newly married couple and their children together with the younger children from the first marriage.

| Ignacio | 1886 | Ignacio went to the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry in 1909 but never graduated. His father made two arduous journeys to try to resolve the problem but without success. Ignacio remained in the US living at least part of the time with his uncle Miguel and with his aunt after Miguel’s death. He died in 1975 never having returned to Ecuador.
